He was only 13 years old when he ran away from home – Mariakani in Kilifi County, on foot to Mwembe Tayari, Mombasa County 35kms away. Kennedy Mwanzia was running away from home, there was no food and no school – he dropped out in Grade 3, and no hope. All he wanted was to go as far away as he could from what he had left behind. In Mombasa, he lived on the streets, eating what he could collect from garbage cans or well-wishing passers-by.
One day he saw the ferry transport people from Mombasa Island over to Likoni. He decided to cross and go further away, only to see matatus – passenger transport vans, announcing that they were going to Kwale. He remembered, that is where his mother came from, and managed to beg for a lift, and found himself in Kwale town. Several days later he managed to locate his grandparents in Tiribe village. Kennedy later got a job as a shamba boy, where he worked for over 10 years. He managed to save and buy land and cows. He is now married and has 2 kids.
While going about his current job, as a boda boda rider (motorcycle taxis), he one day carried a passenger who was listening to the Audio Bible in Kamba language. He insisted that he wanted to have one and use it to bring souls to Christ. The passenger promised him the day the people from Theovision will get in-touch with him.
We met the excited Kennedy in Mkundi village, he agreed to go through the training on the road. Kennedy is now engaging young men in the villages to listen to the Word of God and learn so as to turn away from being lured to sin and unlawful acts.
